Mercedes Intensifies Efforts to Enhance Race Starts

According to George Russell, the Mercedes team is putting in considerable effort behind the scenes to improve their starting performance ahead of the Formula 1 season's resumption in Miami. Despite achieving four front-row lockouts in the first three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to take the lead after the opening lap. The team's starts have been their most significant weakness, but they have shown sufficient pace to recover and win the initial three races. Ferrari has demonstrated exceptional starting prowess this season, thanks to their compact turbo, which enables quicker spin-up times and makes it easier to find the ideal launch window. While drivers have limited opportunities to practice starts during Grand Prix weekends, Russell emphasized that the team is focusing on data analysis to address their notable flaw. In an interview with Sky Germany during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell stated that a substantial amount of work is being done behind the scenes, with numerous days spent on the simulator reviewing the first three races and preparing for the upcoming events. The team is working diligently to analyze data and identify areas for improvement, acknowledging the challenges posed by the limited practice opportunities in the sport.
