Maro Itoje has expressed his continued support for England head coach Steve Borthwick, believing the team can achieve remarkable success under his guidance, despite a disappointing Six Nations campaign. England's poor performance saw them finish fifth, with four consecutive defeats, including a historic loss to Italy. However, RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney has given Borthwick the opportunity to redeem himself with the upcoming summer tour fixtures in the Nations Championship.
If Borthwick can deliver a strong performance against South Africa, Fiji, and Argentina, he will be able to see out his contract until the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. Itoje acknowledges that England failed to meet expectations in the Six Nations, but he remains confident in Borthwick and his coaching staff's ability to turn things around. "We have faith in our approach," Itoje stated, praising Borthwick and his team, including Richard Wigglesworth, Kevin Sinfield, Joe Shaw, and Lee Blackett. "We need to come together, learn from our mistakes, and move forward positively.
Although we didn't achieve the success we had hoped for, my belief in this England team remains unwavering. I firmly believe that we will go on to accomplish great things; it's just a matter of learning from our lessons and moving forward."
