Skelton Celebrates Historic Trainers' Championship Victory

Dan Skelton expressed his elation at finally securing the trainers' championship title, after it became mathematically certain that he could not be overtaken. The Alcester-based trainer had previously seen the title slip through his grasp on the final day of the season, courtesy of Willie Mullins, but this season Skelton has made a statement, leading from the outset and becoming the first trainer to surpass £4 million in prize money. "It's a remarkable achievement, really - we've worked tirelessly over the past few years to get close, only for Willie to pip us at the post, but it's fantastic to have finally achieved it," Skelton said, whose current season total stands at £4,762,920 following a spectacular Grand National Festival. "This is a testament to the entire team's efforts this year. We're thrilled with the performance of everyone involved. The horses have been exceptional and consistent, and I must extend my gratitude to the staff and, above all, the owners who have supported me and enabled us to reach this milestone. It's quite incredible - we're passionate about what we do, and it's an absolute pleasure to have crossed the finish line." Skelton had previously faced intense competition from Mullins in the season's final weeks but this time around, Mullins' representation is expected to be limited in the campaign's final two weekends, with only Road To Home entered in both the Coral Grand National and the season-ending bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown. Skelton's victory has cleared the path for him to savor his championship win, with the trophy to be presented at Sandown Park on April 25.
