Joel Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to leave his position as head coach at Catalans Dragons, citing personal reasons. Tomkins, who held the role for nearly a year, revealed that being away from his family had taken a toll on him. After a recent stint back home, he made the difficult choice to depart the club after just seven games into the Super League season, with the team currently sitting sixth in the standings. Initially appointed as an interim coach following Steve McNamara's departure, Tomkins was later given the permanent role at the club where he spent the latter part of his playing career. In a statement, Tomkins expressed his gratitude for the experience, saying, 'My time at Catalans Dragons over the past 18 months has been a valuable learning experience, with many highs and some challenges. I've gained a great deal, both personally and professionally, and I'm thankful for the friendships and experiences I've had.' However, he noted that the prolonged separation from his family had become too difficult to continue. Tomkins had been absent from the club's last three matches, fueling speculation about his potential departure. With his exit, Ryan Sheridan will take over as interim head coach, assisted by Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, starting with their upcoming game against Warrington Wolves on April 18.
