Can India Afford to Overlook Sooryavanshi, and Is England His Next Destination?

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has etched his name in cricket history as the youngest player to score a century in the IPL, achieving this feat just nine days after making his record-breaking debut at the age of 14 in 2025. Now, at 15, India's newest cricket sensation continues to impress, sparking discussions about his potential debut on the international stage. Sooryavanshi's inaugural IPL season was marked by a remarkable 35-ball hundred as a 14-year-old, and he has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure with the Rajasthan Royals in the 2026 edition. With two 15-ball fifties against the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and a total of 200 runs from five innings at an impressive strike rate of 263.15, he is the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament. Although a golden duck in the recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad reminded everyone of his mortality, Sooryavanshi's ball-striking power, physical presence, and composure at the crease have left seasoned professionals in awe. "It's unbelievable how someone can hit the ball like that. He's a great talent, and we're thrilled to have him on our team," said India and Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. "When Vaibhav is smashing every ball, it's easy to think that the wicket is not challenging. However, cricket is not as easy as he makes it look." With potential international teammates like Jurel praising his skills, it raises an important question. Given India's wealth of emerging talent and their T20 team's recent World Cup victory, it remains to be seen whether the selectors will choose to alter a winning formula. Nevertheless, occasionally a player emerges who is too exceptional to be ignored. Sooryavanshi appears to be in the same league as Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. His outstanding 175 in the U19 World Cup final against England in February, which led India to a 100-run victory and a record sixth title, demonstrated his ability to perform against the best.
