McIlroy Savors Thrilling Masters Victory: 'I Don't Make it Easy!'

Rory McIlroy reflected on the challenges of winning back-to-back Masters titles, stating that it would have been devastating to squander a record-breaking halfway lead at Augusta National. McIlroy made history by becoming the fourth player to achieve consecutive Masters victories, following his dramatic playoff win over Justin Rose the previous year. Despite building a six-shot lead at the halfway point, McIlroy found himself two shots behind Cameron Young during the final day after dropping three shots in a two-hole stretch. However, he responded with four birdies over the remainder of the round, securing a one-shot win over Scottie Scheffler and his sixth major title. McIlroy acknowledged the difficulty of winning at The Masters, saying, 'I tried to convince myself it was both,' referring to the challenges of winning the tournament and the Grand Slam. He expressed his delight at getting the job done, stating, 'I just had to hang in there.' McIlroy's victory marked his 17th and 18th appearances at Augusta National, and he became one of only four players to win The Masters in successive years, joining Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods.
