Maguire to Serve Additional One-Game Suspension Against Chelsea

Manchester United's Harry Maguire has been handed an additional one-match ban for misconduct, resulting in his absence from the upcoming trip to Chelsea. An independent regulatory commission imposed the ban on April 1, following Maguire's improper conduct towards fourth official Matt Donohue after receiving a red card in the match against Bournemouth on March 20. Having already served his suspension for the red card in the 2-1 defeat to Leeds, Maguire will now miss the trip to Stamford Bridge due to the additional ban. He admitted to the offence and was also fined £30,000. According to the FA's written reasons, Donohue claimed Maguire said, 'You're a joke, you're all a f****** joke,' as he left the field, although Maguire claimed he did not insult the official but said something similar to 'it is a f****** joke.' With Maguire and Lisandro Martinez, who was sent off for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair during the defeat to Leeds, both suspended, Manchester United's centre-back options are limited against Chelsea. Analysis suggests that with key players absent, including Matthijs de Ligt due to a back injury, United may have to rely on less experienced centre-backs or consider unconventional options to fill the gap.
