Azleet Emerges as 1000 Guineas Contender Following Stunning 50-1 Newmarket Victory

Azleet sprang a major surprise with a 50-1 victory in the Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes, catapulting herself into contention for the Betfred 1000 Guineas. The Stuart Williams-trained filly, who had previously struggled at Listed and Group-race level, was given a masterful ride by Marco Ghiani. Settled at the rear of the field, Azleet made her move inside the last three furlongs and found her stride on the rising ground. She battled it out with America Queen in the final half-furlong, ultimately prevailing by a neck. Williams expressed his delight at the win, stating, 'We'll go there and roll the dice in the 1000 Guineas and it's going to be a special time for me to have a Group One runner in a race at Newmarket.' America Queen, trained by Richard Hughes, will head to France for the French Guineas, while Charlie Appleby may target a Listed prize at York with Act Of Kindness. Meanwhile, Damysus impressed with a dominant comeback success in the Betway Earl of Sefton Stakes, and Morshdi announced himself as a Derby contender with victory in the Betway Feilden Stakes.
