Great Britain Shocks Australia, Secures Spot in Billie Jean King Cup Finals

The British team of Jodie Burrage and Harriet Dart secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Australia in their Billie Jean King Cup qualifier, winning their doubles match in straight sets. Burrage and Dart overcame a 3-1 deficit in the first set, going on to win 6-3, 6-4 against Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez in Melbourne. The pair's triumph marked a remarkable comeback, as they trailed early on before taking control of the match after the roof on John Cain Arena was closed. After a strong start to the second set, the British duo served out the match, securing victory for their team. An emotional Burrage expressed her pride in the team's performance, saying, 'That feels amazing... I'm proud of us for the way that we played.' Dart added, 'It's crazy... to be able to make the finals is just kind of surreal.' With key players Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, Katie Boulter, and Fran Jones absent, Dart and debutant Mika Stojsavljevic, 17, had put Great Britain in charge with singles victories on Friday. The team's captain, Anne Keothavong, praised her team, saying, 'We're all just overjoyed... it's been an unbelievable week.' Great Britain will now move on to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, competing against the other six tie winners and host nation China in September. Keothavong believes her team is 'due something special' after reaching the semi-finals last year and is confident they can make a strong showing in the finals.
