Manchester United's defender Harry Maguire has been issued an additional one-match ban due to improper conduct, ruling him out of the upcoming trip to Chelsea. An independent regulatory commission charged Maguire for his behavior towards the fourth official after being given a red card in a match against Bournemouth.
Maguire admitted to the offense and was fined £30,000. The incident occurred when he swore at the fourth official following his dismissal for denying a goalscoring opportunity. The 33-year-old will now miss the game against Chelsea, in addition to the match against Leeds, which he already missed while serving his initial suspension.
The FA's written reasons revealed that the fourth official claimed Maguire insulted him, although Maguire denied making a personal attack. Manchester United will be without Maguire and Lisandro Martinez for the Chelsea game, as Martinez was also sent off in the defeat to Leeds.
This leaves the team with limited center-back options, including Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, who have shown inexperience this season. Other potential options for the team include Luke Shaw, Casemiro, or delving into their youth ranks, with eighteen-year-old Godwill Kukonki being a possibility.
