Prograis Predicts Benn's Risky Strategy Will Ultimately Backfire
Regis Prograis believes Conor Benn is taking a significant risk by facing him this weekend, and he's confident that this gamble will not pay off. Benn is set to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he previously secured middleweight victories over Chris Eubank Jr, for his third consecutive fight at the venue. Prograis, a former super-lightweight world champion, is moving up to 150lbs to fight Benn at a catchweight with no rehydration limit. "They've definitely set the terms in his favor, but I'm aware that I have what it takes to win," Prograis stated in an interview with Sky Sports. Prograis, who has spent his entire career fighting at 140lbs, views the significant weight jump as a challenge but remains unconcerned. He expressed that he was initially hesitant about the lack of a weight stipulation for the day after the fight but ultimately decided to focus on making the fight happen. Prograis is confident in his abilities and feels that he is the better fighter, which is why he's not worried about the weight or potential rematch clause. He revealed that there is no rematch clause in place, but he's open to a potential rematch if the fans demand it. Prograis had initially planned to move to 147lbs but was called to fight Benn on six weeks' notice. Despite the short notice, Prograis was already training and feels that this will give him an edge. He doesn't consider Benn to be in his league, stating, "I don't think so. I know I'm better." Prograis views Benn as an average fighter who hasn't achieved the same level of success as him. He believes that his accomplishments, including being a two-time world champion, set him apart from Benn. Prograis is looking to use a victory over Benn as a stepping stone to another world title shot, and he's confident that a win will bring significant opportunities his way. "It'll open up a lot of doors for me," he said. "I know that after this fight, something big will happen, and I'm aiming to become a three-time champion."
