Fury Vows to Make a Statement Against Makhmudov

In a lighthearted moment at their final press conference, Arslanbek Makhmudov lifted Tyson Fury off the ground in a bear hug. Fury, taking it in stride, had earlier teased Makhmudov and was subsequently hoisted into the air by his opponent. This weekend, Fury is determined to embark on his journey to becoming a three-time world champion as he faces Makhmudov. Following a brief retirement, his first bout since losing to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024, Fury sees this fight as the initial step in reclaiming a world title. Fury stated, "For the first time in a long time, I'm the one doing the chasing, not being chased." He added, "I'm the best in this division, and I'm going to prove it repeatedly." With Usyk and Fabio Wardley currently holding the four major world titles, which Fury referred to as the "so-called alphabetical world champions," he eventually plans to target these belts. "Sooner or later, they'll all have to face me," Fury said. "Who else can they fight to make any significant money?" At 37 years old and after a period of inactivity, Fury will have to overcome doubts about his ability to make a successful comeback, including those from his own father. Fury responded, "They all say my legs are gone, they all say my reactions are gone... Tune in on Saturday night, and you'll find out." He expressed his confidence, saying, "Speedy, skillful, handsome, and destructive... I've never lost my speed or my reactions. Still got it... I must have done 500 rounds of sparring, and I've still got it." While cautioning against underestimating Makhmudov, Fury said, "All those other fighters can wait their turn to get beaten. Give this man his respect. He's a quick starter, with 17 knockouts in the first couple of rounds. I've never overlooked anybody in my life, and I've definitely not overlooked this opponent." Fury's confidence in himself remains unwavering. "I feel sorry for Arslanbek Makhmudov. I'm going to make an example of him. I'll knock his head right off his shoulders. I'm ready to put on a show."
