Dobey Dominates Players Championship as Humphries' Struggles Persist

Chris Dobey claimed his second title of 2026 at the Players Championship 9 in Wigan, while Luke Humphries' form woes continued with a last-16 exit. Humphries, still reeling from a quarter-final loss to Jonny Clayton just four days prior, fell 6-4 to Andrew Gilding. Gilding's run was eventually halted by Dobey in the semi-finals, after he had beaten Beau Greaves, who made history by becoming the first woman to reach a ProTour quarter-final. Dobey went on to defeat Justin Hood 8-4 in the final, averaging 105.28 and taking home the £15,000 prize. "I'm hoping to pick up more titles, it's hard to win just one, so to win ten is a great feeling," said Dobey, who aims to replicate his form on TV and in European Tour events. The tournament also saw a nine-darter from Thomas Lovely in his round three loss to Luke Woodhouse.
