Gary Player Offers Support to Tiger Woods but Urges Caution with Driving
Tiger Woods has received messages of support from golf legends Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus as he continues to focus on his health and recovery. Woods is currently absent from the field at Augusta National due to his ongoing health issues, which have been exacerbated by a recent car accident. Prior to the crash, Woods was working towards making another competitive comeback from injury. Player expressed sympathy for Woods' ongoing pain but emphasized the importance of prioritizing his safety, particularly when it comes to driving. 'If I or anyone in this room had to endure the kind of pain Tiger has been experiencing for a long time, we would understand his need for relief,' Player said. 'However, I strongly advise him against driving, as it poses a significant risk, especially when taking medication.' Player suggested that Woods consider hiring a chauffeur to minimize the risks associated with driving. Nicklaus also offered words of encouragement, stating, 'Golf needs him, and we'd love to have him back.' Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley expressed the organization's support for Woods' decision to focus on his health and well-being. Woods has played in only 11 official tournaments since November 2020 and has completed 72 holes in just four of them. His last competitive appearance was at The Open in July 2024.
