New Policy Prohibits Transgender Women from Competing in Female Darts Tournaments

The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has announced a significant change to its policy, stating that only biological females will be allowed to participate in women's darts tournaments. This decision comes after a thorough review of the Trans and Gender Diverse Policy, which included a report by Dr. Emma Hilton, an academic developmental biologist, as well as consideration of extensive legal advice and recent UK court rulings. As a result, transgender females, including Noa-Lynn van Leuven, a prominent player who has won six titles on the women's tour since 2022, will no longer be eligible to compete in women's events. Van Leuven has expressed her disappointment and frustration with the decision, describing it as a significant setback for the trans community. The DRA has emphasized its commitment to inclusivity, noting that all players, regardless of their biological sex, legal sex, or gender identity, are welcome to participate in open tournaments. The new Eligibility Policy and Rules will be implemented across affiliated organizations, including the PDC, starting from April 5, 2026. The DRA will continue to monitor developments related to transgender participation in sports and review its policy annually.
