Glasgow's Champions Cup Hopes Dashed by Toulon in Quarter-Final

Glasgow Warriors' bid to reach their first Investec Champions Cup semi-final was thwarted by a 22-19 defeat to RC Toulon at Scotstoun. Despite entering the game as favourites, Franco Smith's side struggled to contain Toulon, who ultimately prevailed with four tries to Glasgow's three. The victory sets Toulon up for a semi-final clash against either Leinster or Sale. Glasgow were forced into a late change when Max Williamson was ruled out, with Macenzzie Duncan replacing him on the bench. The home side took the lead after a cautious start, with Alex Samuel and Ben Afshar combining to send Stafford McDowall over for the first try. However, Toulon quickly responded through Jeremy Sinzelle and Gael Drean. A trademark run from Kyle Steyn carried Glasgow back into Toulon territory, but Sione Tuipulotu was held up just short of the line. Toulon's ill-discipline was punished when Junior Kpoku was shown a yellow card, and Glasgow capitalized with a brilliant pass from McDowall to Ollie Smith. The hosts soon found themselves on the back foot, and Jean-Baptiste Gros scored a converted try to level the score at 12-12. Toulon took the lead through Melvyn Jaminet and Drean, but Glasgow regained the advantage in the second half with a try from Gregor Hiddleston. However, Toulon eventually broke through with a try from Nacho Brex, and their opponents were unable to recover. Meanwhile, Leinster Rugby secured their place in the semi-finals with a 43-13 victory over Sale Sharks, scoring six tries in the process. They will face Toulon in the next round.
