Alcaraz Withdraws from Barcelona Open Due to Wrist Injury

World-class tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to pull out of the Barcelona Open due to a wrist injury. The Spaniard won his first match but struggled with wrist pain and has now withdrawn from the tournament. Alcaraz was seeking to regain his world No 1 ranking and was set to face Tomas Machac in the second round. The injury occurred during his opening match against Otto Virtanen, which he won 6-4 6-2. Alcaraz underwent a test on his wrist and decided to withdraw from the competition to avoid further injury. He expressed his disappointment, stating that he never likes to give up on any tournament, especially one as special as the Barcelona Open. Alcaraz now faces a race to be fit for the upcoming Madrid and Rome tournaments as he prepares to defend his French Open title. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie progressed to the quarter-finals in Barcelona after a tough three-set match against American Ethan Quinn. Norrie will face Spanish 19-year-old Rafael Jodar in the quarter-finals. On the WTA Tour, Katie Boulter reached the last eight at the Open de Rouen in France, while Iga Swiatek secured a quarter-final berth at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. Novak Djokovic has also announced his return to action at the Mutua Madrid Open, which will be live on Sky Sports Tennis from April 21 to May 3.
