I Am Maximus Regains Grand National Title

In a historic moment, I Am Maximus has become the first horse to reclaim the Grand National title since the legendary Red Rum, after winning the 2026 Randox Grand National. The race was filled with drama from the start, with Grangeclare West and Panic Attack falling early on. I Am Maximus, ridden by Paul Townend, followed his familiar inside path, while Ben Jones made a bold move on The Jukebox Man. However, the heavily-backed 9-2 favorite, I Am Maximus, stormed home to win the race for the second time, with Iroko finishing second and Jordans coming in third. This marked a record fourth win in the Grand National for owner JP McManus. Trainer Willie Mullins, who has now joined the ranks of four-time National-winning handlers, praised the horse and the ride, saying, "He's a superb horse who got a fantastic ride." Mullins also reflected on the changing nature of the modern-day National, saying, "Maybe the modern-day National is changing and we're looking at it a bit differently." I Am Maximus' victory has sparked hopes of a potential third win next year, with Mullins saying, "Hopefully he'll be here next year, JP is very keen on the National for I Am Maximus, he says he loves the place and jumps the fences so well."
