Milan's Iconic San Siro Stadium May Host ATP Grass Court Event from 2028

A new ATP 250 grass-court tournament is set to take place in Milan, Italy, starting from 2028, with the possibility of being held at the historic San Siro stadium. The Italian Tennis and Padel Federation has acquired the rights to the tournament, previously held in Brussels, and plans to host it annually in June. While the venue is yet to be confirmed, San Siro, with its vast capacity, is a strong contender. The event aims to serve as a warm-up for Wimbledon, and its introduction marks a significant development in Italy's tennis calendar. The federation has been actively working to promote tennis in the country, having recently hosted a WTA grass-court tournament in Gaiba from 2022 to 2024. Additionally, Italy is set to host the ATP Finals in Turin until 2030 and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna until next year. The country is also home to the prestigious Rome Masters, a clay-court tournament that takes place before the French Open. Furthermore, plans are underway to install a retractable roof at the Foro Italico's Campo Centrale, with construction scheduled to commence after this year's Internazionali BNL d'Italia. The long-term goal is to elevate the tournament in Rome to the status of a fifth Grand Slam, rivaling the likes of the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
