Itoje Backs Borthwick to Lead England to Greatness

Maro Itoje has expressed his unwavering support for England head coach Steve Borthwick, asserting that the team can accomplish remarkable feats under his guidance. Despite a disappointing Six Nations campaign, which saw England suffer four consecutive defeats and finish fifth, Itoje remains optimistic about the team's potential. The England captain attributed the team's poor performance to a failure to meet expectations, but emphasized his faith in Borthwick and the coaching staff to turn things around. With the inaugural Nations Championship approaching, Itoje believes that the team can learn from their mistakes and move forward in a positive direction. He stated, 'We believe in what we're doing,' and expressed his confidence in the coaching staff, including Borthwick, Richard Wigglesworth, Kevin Sinfield, Joe Shaw, and Lee Blackett. Itoje's vote of confidence comes as RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney indicated that Borthwick will be given the opportunity to lead the team in the summer's tour fixtures, with the goal of orchestrating a revival ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
