McIlroy Relishes 'Incredible' Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy reflected on the challenges he overcame to claim his second consecutive Masters title, admitting it would have been devastating to let a record-breaking halfway lead slip away. McIlroy became the fourth player in history to achieve back-to-back Masters wins, following his dramatic playoff victory over Justin Rose last year. Despite building a six-shot halfway lead, the largest in Masters history, McIlroy fell behind playing partner Cameron Young on the final day after dropping three shots in a two-hole stretch. However, he responded with four birdies over the remainder of the round, securing a one-shot win over Scottie Scheffler with a final-hole bogey. This victory marked McIlroy's sixth major title, joining Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as the only players to win The Masters in successive years. McIlroy acknowledged the difficulty of winning at Augusta National, stating, 'I thought it was so difficult to win last year because of trying to win The Masters and the Grand Slam, then this year I realised it's just really difficult to win The Masters.' He expressed his delight at being able to 'get it done' and credited his perseverance over the years for ultimately paying off. With this win, McIlroy completed the third leg of the Grand Slam, having previously achieved this feat in 2014. He noted, 'I just can't believe I waited 17 years to get one Green Jacket and I get two in a row.'
