Hull FC Exit Leaves Cartwright Feeling Betrayed

Former Hull FC head coach John Cartwright expressed his feelings of betrayal and disrespect following the confirmation of his departure from the club. The announcement, made on April 7, stated that Cartwright would be leaving at the end of the current Betfred Super League season, with the club choosing to exercise a six-month termination clause. Cartwright claims he was not provided with a reason for the decision and is still awaiting an explanation. In an interview, he stated, "I probably feel a little bit betrayed and disrespected" by the club's actions. Cartwright had been with Hull FC since the start of the 2025 campaign, leading the team to a seventh-placed finish, their highest since 2020. Despite the circumstances, Cartwright vowed to continue performing his duties, saying, "I'll still do my job. I won't do anything that will put that at risk." The club has already begun the process of finding a new coach for the 2027 season, with Cartwright's departure coming as a surprise, given the team's current ninth-place standing in Super League with three wins and four defeats from their first seven matches.
