England rugby full-back Ellie Kildunne has spoken out about her personal battle with body dysmorphia, which she developed during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. Despite her impressive performance in the Rugby World Cup, scoring five tries, including a notable solo effort in the final against Canada, Kildunne struggled with feelings of isolation and disconnection from her body. In an interview with BBC Sport, she revealed that she experienced unhealthy weight loss and developed an eating disorder due to her inability to participate in competitive rugby during the pandemic. Kildunne explained that she would often see herself as larger than she actually was, despite being considered small in the rugby world.
She credits a physio session at her former club, Wasps, with helping her to confront her issues and seek support. With the help of lead physiotherapist Emily Ross, Kildunne was able to address her problems and develop a healthier relationship with food and her body. She now feels more in control and is using her platform to raise awareness and support others who may be struggling with similar issues.
Kildunne's story highlights the importance of seeking help and the impact that speaking out can have on one's mental health and wellbeing.
