Coventry's Promotion Bid Put on Hold After Goalless Draw with Sheffield Wednesday

Coventry City, the Championship leaders, were denied the chance to move within a point of promotion to the Premier League after a 0-0 draw with already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday. Frank Lampard's team could have been promoted if they had won and Middlesbrough had lost to Portsmouth later in the day. The draw marked only the third point of 2026 for Sheffield Wednesday, who set a new record for the most consecutive games without a win in the Football League. The home side had several scoring opportunities, including a header from Liam Kitching that was cleared off the line and a close-range effort from Jack Rudoni that was scuffed. Despite their dominance, Coventry were unable to break through Sheffield Wednesday's defense, which was marshaled by Manchester City loanee Jaden Heskey.
