Can India Afford to Overlook Sooryavanshi, and Is England Next on His Radar?

At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has etched his name in cricket history as the youngest player to score a century in the Indian Premier League, achieving this feat a mere nine days after his record-breaking debut at the age of 14 in 2025. Now, he continues to stun the cricket world with his exceptional talent, sparking a heated debate about when he should be introduced to the international stage. Sooryavanshi made a dazzling debut in the IPL, scoring a century in just 35 balls at 14, and has consistently demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure with the Rajasthan Royals in the 2026 season. With two 15-ball fifties against the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he is currently the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament, with an impressive 200 runs from five innings at a strike rate of 263.15. Although a golden duck in the recent match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad showed that Sooryavanshi is not invincible, his incredible ball-striking power, physical presence, and composure at the crease have left seasoned professionals in awe. "It's unbelievable how he can hit the ball like that. He's a great talent, and we feel fortunate to have him on our team," said Dhruv Jurel, the India and Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter. With potential international teammates like Jurel praising his skills, the question on everyone's mind is when Sooryavanshi will make his international debut. Given India's wealth of emerging talent and their recent T20 World Cup win, it remains to be seen whether the selectors will alter their winning formula. However, every so often, a player emerges who is too special to ignore. Sooryavanshi seems to be cut from the same cloth as cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. His remarkable 175 in the U19 World Cup final against England in February, which led India to a 100-run victory and a record sixth title, further solidified his reputation as a player who can excel against the best. With a packed summer of white-ball fixtures on the horizon, Sooryavanshi may soon have the opportunity to make his international debut, potentially in the upcoming series against Afghanistan or in the matches against Ireland and England in June and July. Whether it happens this summer or not, it appears to be only a matter of time before Sooryavanshi receives the call from India, and the cricket world has been put on notice.
