Aston Villa Seize Control of Europa League Quarter-Final Against Bologna

Aston Villa have taken a significant step towards the Europa League semi-finals after securing a 3-1 victory over Bologna in the first leg of their quarter-final tie in Italy. England internationals Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins scored crucial goals for Unai Emery's side, despite Bologna's spirited display. The Serie A team had been on a 20-game unbeaten European run at home and were playing in their first-ever continental quarter-final, but Villa's clinical finishing proved decisive. Konsa opened the scoring with a header into an empty net after a poor mistake by Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia, before Watkins doubled the lead with a composed finish after the break. Although Bologna pulled a goal back through Jonathan Rowe, Watkins sealed the win with a late strike, giving Villa a two-goal cushion ahead of the second leg at Villa Park.
