I Am Maximus Regains Grand National Title

In a historic moment, I Am Maximus became the first horse to reclaim the Grand National title since the legendary Red Rum, winning the 2026 Randox Grand National. The race was filled with drama from the start, with Grangeclare West and Panic Attack experiencing setbacks early on. I Am Maximus, under the skilled hands of Paul Townend, navigated the challenging course with precision, ultimately crossing the finish line first. This victory marked a record fourth win for owner JP McManus and a fourth National win for trainer Willie Mullins, who joins the ranks of Ginger McCain and Fred Rimell. Mullins praised the horse, saying, "He's a superb horse who got a fantastic ride... He's just a superstar - nothing fazes him." The win was also notable for being the first time one owner had the first two horses, with Iroko coming in second. The Jukebox Man and Jordans followed in third and fourth places, respectively. Reflecting on the race, Townend emphasized the horse's toughness and endurance, saying, "He'll gallop to the end of the world for you." The Grand National also saw Home By The Lee achieve a dominant win in the Jet2 Liverpool Hurdle, following up on its success at the Cheltenham Festival.
