Australian coach John Cartwright has expressed feelings of betrayal and disrespect following the announcement of his impending departure from Hull FC. The news, revealed on April 7, stated that Cartwright would be leaving the club at the end of the current Betfred Super League season, with the club opting to exercise a six-month termination clause in his contract. Despite this, Cartwright claims he has yet to receive an explanation for the decision. In a recent interview, Cartwright stated, 'The club has decided to part ways, and I still haven't been given a reason.' He took over as head coach at the start of the 2025 campaign, guiding the team to a seventh-place finish, their highest since 2020. Cartwright has assured that he will continue to fulfill his duties, saying, 'I'll still do my job. I won't do anything that will put that at risk.' The search for a new coach has already begun, with the club aiming to appoint a replacement from the 2027 season. Currently, Hull FC sits ninth in the Super League, having secured three wins and four defeats from their first seven matches.
