"Being back and winning in front of my home crowd in Barcelona means the world to me," Alcaraz said after the match, looking forward to his next round against Tomas Machac. "I only had my first practice here this morning to adapt to the conditions, which are different from those in Monte Carlo.
However, I'm really happy with how I played and overcame the challenges in the first set. I ended up playing great tennis, and hopefully, I'll feel even better in the next round." Alcaraz is seeking his third title of the season, following his career Grand Slam win at the Australian Open and his triumph at the ATP 500 event in Doha. He emphasized that while the opportunity to quickly reclaim the No 1 ranking provides additional motivation, his primary focus remains on steady improvement throughout the clay season. With Sinner absent from the Barcelona draw after his recent back-to-back wins, Alcaraz has a clearer path to victory.
The Spaniard joked about not missing Sinner but acknowledged the rivalry as a great motivator. "The battle between Jannik and me is fantastic, and it probably gives me extra motivation," Alcaraz said. "However, my main goal is to stay focused and keep improving.
We have a clear plan for training and matches, and the results and points are just additional motivation."
