Milan's San Siro Stadium May Host ATP 250 Grass-Court Event from 2028

Italy is set to host a new grass-court ATP 250 tournament in Milan, starting from 2028, with the iconic San Siro stadium being considered as a potential venue. The Italian Tennis and Padel Federation has acquired the rights to the 250-level ATP Tour tournament previously held in Brussels. The event is scheduled to take place every June, and while the San Siro stadium, which is home to AC Milan and Inter Milan, is a likely candidate, a final decision has not been made yet. According to federation president Angelo Binaghi, the event will likely be held in northern Italy due to climate reasons. Binaghi also mentioned that the introduction of practice courts inside Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium for the Madrid Open could serve as a model for the San Siro. Italy has previously hosted a WTA grass-court tournament in Gaiba from 2022 to 2024. The federation is also hosting other prominent tennis events, including the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna. Additionally, work on a retractable roof for the Campo Centrale at the Foro Italico is expected to begin soon, with the goal of completion by the 2028 edition of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia. Binaghi expressed his ambition to establish the Rome tournament as a fifth Grand Slam, rivaling the likes of Indian Wells. Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner is also aiming to make history by becoming the first Italian man to win the singles title at the Foro Italico since Adriano Panatta 50 years ago.
