Noa-Lynn Van Leuven Vows to Continue Fighting After Being Banned from Women's Darts Events

Transgender darts player Noa-Lynn Van Leuven has expressed her determination to keep fighting after being barred from competing in women's tournaments by the sport's governing body. The 29-year-old, who has won six titles on the women's tour since joining in 2022, made history by becoming the first transgender woman to play at the World Darts Championship in 2024. In a video posted on her Instagram account, Van Leuven stated, 'Apparently, I just got retired - not by choice, but because I'm no longer allowed to compete.' She emphasized that the issue extends beyond her personal situation, affecting the entire trans community. The Darts Regulation Authority's decision to ban transgender women from women's events was based on a review of its policies, which included consulting an academic developmental biologist and considering extensive legal advice. Van Leuven, also known as 'The Duchess,' has been a trailblazer in the sport, making a significant impact on the circuit since her transition. Despite facing opposition from some players, she has received support from notable figures in the darts world, including Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries. Van Leuven has vowed to continue fighting, stating, 'This isn't the end. I'm just going back to the drawing board. I'm not done fighting.'
