Nijman Claims Fourth Ranking Title of 2026 with Dominant Display
Wessel Nijman continued his impressive start to 2026, capturing his fourth ranking title at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. Nijman overpowered former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final, reclaiming the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. Chris Dobey briefly surpassed Nijman after winning Players Championship Nine, but the Dutchman responded with a strong performance at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. After a hard-fought win against Martin Lukeman, Nijman went on to defeat Justin Hood, prompting a remarkable march towards victory. With impressive averages, Nijman dominated his opponents, including a 109.71 average against Beau Greaves in the last eight and 108.46 against Luke Woodhouse in the semi-finals. In the final, Nijman capitalized on Waites' slow start, establishing an early lead and maintaining control throughout the match. Despite Waites reducing the deficit, Nijman regained control and secured the title with a 101.34 average. Nijman reflected on his performance, stating it was his best floor event of the year, and he is now targeting more success in the upcoming European Darts Grand Prix. The Dutchman has broken into the top 18 on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder and is aiming to secure a spot in the top 16. Elsewhere, Beau Greaves impressed with back-to-back quarter-final appearances, defeating notable opponents including Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies.
