Southampton delivered a dazzling display to overpower Wrexham 5-1, leapfrogging them into sixth place in the Championship standings. The Saints quickly dispelled any concerns of a letdown after their FA Cup win over Arsenal, racing to a two-goal lead courtesy of early strikes from Kuryu Matzuki and Flynn Downes. Josh Windass pulled one back for Wrexham before halftime, but the Saints' dominance continued as Cyle Larin added a third, followed by Ross Stewart's headed goal, and Finn Azaz sealed the victory with a late fifth. This win propels Southampton into the play-off positions, two points ahead of Wrexham, with a game in hand, and now just six points behind second-placed Ipswich. The Saints' unbeaten run in the league extends to 13 games, with this being their 10th win, as they time their push for promotion perfectly. The match began with intent from the Saints, as Larin and Azaz both hit the crossbar in the eighth minute. Larin's header from Ryan Manning's cross was unfortunate not to score, while Azaz should have done better with the rebound. However, Azaz quickly made amends by setting up the opener, threading a fine pass to Matsuki, who slotted past Arthur Okonkwo. The Saints continued to control the game, doubling their lead when Downes thumped home after Wrexham failed to clear a James Bree free-kick. Wrexham reduced the deficit as Windass showcased his skill, controlling and flicking past Jack Stephens to fire into the bottom corner. Larin eventually got the goal he deserved, calmly lifting over Okonkwo after racing clear from halfway. Although Wrexham's Kieffer Moore headed against the post, the Saints underlined their superiority with Stewart's headed goal from a Welington free-kick and Azaz's late strike.
