Transgender Women Barred from Female Darts Competitions

The Darts Regulation Authority has introduced a revised Eligibility Policy, stating that only biological females will be permitted to participate in women's darts tournaments. This decision follows an extensive review of the authority's Trans and Gender Diverse Policy, which included a report by a developmental biologist and consideration of recent UK court rulings. As a result, transgender female players, including Noa-Lynn van Leuven, a six-time title winner on the women's tour, will no longer be eligible to compete in women's events. However, they will still be allowed to participate in open tournaments. The DRA claims it aims to promote fair competition and will continue to monitor developments in transgender participation in sports, reviewing its Eligibility Policy annually. Van Leuven has expressed her disappointment and frustration with the decision, describing it as a significant setback for the trans community. The new policy will be effective from April 5, 2026, and will apply to all affiliated organizations, including the PDC.
