Kent Faces Uphill Task Against Northants as Crawley Struggles to Find Form

Kent's batting woes continued as they trailed Northamptonshire, who posted a record 684 for two declared at Canterbury, with Zak Crawley's struggles at the top of the order a major concern. Crawley, under pressure to retain his England Test spot, managed just 26 runs before being dismissed, his third consecutive sub-30 score in the County Championship. Northants' top four batsmen all reached centuries, with Luke Procter scoring a maiden double ton, finishing unbeaten on 261. Kent lost two early wickets, including Crawley, to close on 119 for six. Elsewhere, Ben Duckett, Crawley's opening partner for England, was run out for just one run as Nottinghamshire built a commanding lead over Glamorgan. Ben McKinney boosted his chances of displacing either Crawley or Duckett with a 244-run knock for Durham against Gloucestershire. Durham declared on 605 for five, with Gloucestershire struggling at 168 for eight, still 437 runs behind. Craig Overton's career-best 141 helped Somerset reach 348 in response to Essex's 149, while Leicestershire fought back against Surrey, with Rishi Patel scoring an unbeaten 133 and Jake Weatherald adding 96. Hampshire dominated Yorkshire, with Sonny Baker and Kyle Abbott claiming four wickets apiece, and Warwickshire took control against Sussex, with Rob Yates scoring an unbeaten 75. Harry Came and Brooke Guest helped Derbyshire respond to Lancashire's 351, and Worcestershire took a lead of 208 against Middlesex, thanks to fifties from Daniel Lategan and Jake Libby.
