Dan Skelton has expressed his elation after mathematically securing the title of champion trainer for the current season. The Alcester-based trainer had previously been denied the title by Willie Mullins on the final day of the last two campaigns, but this season Skelton has dominated from the start, becoming the first trainer to surpass £4 million in prize money. "It's truly remarkable; we've worked tirelessly over the past few years to get close, only for Willie to edge us out at the last minute. It's fantastic to have finally achieved it," Skelton said, whose current season total stands at £4,762,920 following an impressive Grand National Festival. Skelton has historically faced a strong challenge from Mullins in the final weeks of the season, but this year, Mullins' representation is expected to be limited in the last two weekends, with only Road To Home entered in the Coral Grand National and the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown. With the title now secured, Skelton can look forward to receiving the trophy at Sandown Park on April 25.
