Aspinall Claims German Darts Grand Prix Title with Victory Over Noppert

Nathan Aspinall has secured his fourth European Tour title, emerging victorious in the German Darts Grand Prix with an 8-5 win over Danny Noppert in the final. Aspinall, who previously won three European Tour titles in 2025, made a triumphant return to form in Munich, overcoming a determined challenge from Noppert to claim the £35,000 top prize. The Stockport star produced a remarkable comeback, winning four consecutive legs from 5-4 down to seal the victory, achieving an average of 100.35 and hitting seven 180s to thwart Noppert's bid for his maiden European Tour crown. Aspinall's path to the final included a narrow escape against Ricardo Pietreczko on Sunday, where he survived a match dart. He then accounted for Pietreczko's World Cup partner Martin Schindler, winning six straight legs from 2-0 down, and followed this up with a hard-fought 6-4 win over Andrew Gilding in the quarter-finals. Aspinall's standout performance came in the semi-finals, where he averaged 106.40 to convincingly defeat Kevin Doets, ending a sequence of six successive defeats against the Dutchman. This set the stage for a thrilling showdown against Noppert, with Aspinall initially appearing poised for a comfortable victory after taking a 4-1 lead. However, Noppert staged an unlikely comeback, capitalizing on Aspinall's struggles with doubling to win four consecutive legs and take the lead. Nevertheless, Aspinall responded with legs of 13, 12, and 15 darts to regain the advantage, ultimately sealing the win with a clinical 128 checkout. 'I am absolutely buzzing,' Aspinall admitted, having equalled Phil Taylor's haul of four European Tour titles. 'I've had a lot of setbacks this year, and it's been a challenge to stay motivated, but nights like this remind me why I play the game.' Aspinall's victory was inspired by the crowd in Munich, which rekindled his passion for darts. The BetMGM Premier League season continues with Night 10 in Brighton, featuring an all-Dutch showdown between Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen, as well as matches between Luke Humphries and Jonny Clayton, Gerwyn Price and Josh Rock, and Luke Littler and Stephen Bunting.
