Great Britain Stuns Australia, Secures Spot in Billie Jean King Cup Finals

The British team, led by captain Anne Keothavong, triumphed over Australia in their qualifier, with Jodie Burrage and Harriet Dart winning the decisive doubles match in straight sets. The duo overcame Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez 6-3, 6-4, in Melbourne, to seal the victory for Great Britain. Burrage and Dart initially trailed 3-1 in the first set but made a strong comeback after the roof on John Cain Arena was closed, winning five consecutive games. The pair then served out the match in the second set, securing the win for their team. An emotional Burrage expressed her pride and joy, stating, 'That feels amazing... I'm proud of us for the way that we played and managed to close that out.' Her partner, Dart, added, 'It's crazy... to be able to make the finals is just kind of surreal.' The British team's victory was all the more impressive given the absence of key players, including Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter. Instead, debutant Mika Stojsavljevic and Harriet Dart stepped up, winning their singles matches against higher-ranked opponents on Friday. Great Britain will now move on to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, China, in September, where they will compete against the other qualifying teams and host nation China. Captain Keothavong praised her team, saying, 'We're all just overjoyed... the tennis that was played yesterday and today was just fantastic. I couldn't really ask anything more of my team.' With this win, Great Britain has now secured four consecutive qualifier rubbers in the Billie Jean King Cup, defeating France, Germany, Netherlands, and Australia. Keothavong believes her team is 'due something special' after reaching the semi-finals last year and is confident that they can make a strong showing in the finals.
