Hollie Doyle's Blog: Gaining Insight into Derby Contender Wareeth

I'm set to ride at Newmarket's Craven meeting, with a key mount on Derby prospect Wareeth in the Listed Feilden Stakes. My standout ride for the week, Wareeth, trained by Archie Watson, will be tested in the Feilden Stakes. The added furlong should suit the Sea The Stars colt, who takes a significant step up in class after his impressive 14-length win in a novice race at Newcastle. Although he doesn't have a Derby entry, we've been pleased with his progress since his debut. I had the chance to ride him last week and felt good, but his second start will reveal more. Aidan O'Brien's Isaac Newton has an experience edge with a win at Goodwood and a fourth-place finish in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud, holding a Derby entry with a rating of 106. Poseidon's Warrior also jumps from novice company, having won at Goodwood, and is entered in the Classic. All three colts are set for the traditional Derby trial, the Group 2 Dante at York. I expect a strong run from ZOULU CHIEF in the Weatherbys With Venatour Racing Handicap, having performed well at Newmarket in the autumn. He's been active on the All-Weather, winning at Wolverhampton and giving a good challenge at Lingfield Park. Approaching his prime at five, he's a few pounds higher than his best win at York in 2023 but looks like a 90 horse. I've worked with Jane Chapple-Hyam's HARLEQUIN BREEZE and believe she's worth her place in the Group 3 Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes, despite likely odds. This New Bay daughter brings smart form into the Betfred 1000 Guineas trial, having been within a neck of William Haggas's Zooming. Harlequin Breeze is still a maiden after three starts but has improved with each run, impressing me with her determination. IMPOSSIBLE MISSION needs to prove his turf capabilities, receiving weight from all his rivals in the National Stud Handicap. John Butler's three-year-old made a winning handicap debut at Wolverhampton and should have improved from his reappearance. For Des Donovan's LADY FIZZ, experience will be key in the Molson Coors British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes, taking on fillies from powerful yards over 1m. I'm looking forward to riding Marco Botti's Shergar Cup winner PRINCE OF INDIA in the Zyn Abernant Stakes. I liked him when I sat on him on the gallops last year; he's a powerfully built colt who could be a force in stakes sprints. It looks like a wide-open race, but he should be spot on after a creditable comeback in the Listed Lady Wulfruna Stakes. I expect big things from Hawk Mountain, so I'll be disappointed if he doesn't make a winning return in the Group 3 Betway Craven Stakes. Aidan O'Brien's Wootton Bassett son is a Group 1 winner and can strengthen his Derby claims. Another favourite, Karl Burke's Boiling Point, returns to turf in the Group 3 Betway Earl Of Sefton Stakes, probably needing his previous outing but can establish himself as a genuine Pattern performer this season.
