Hull FC Announces John Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, will be leaving the club at the conclusion of the 2026 Super League season. Cartwright was appointed ahead of the 2025 campaign and led the team to a seventh-place finish in his first year. Currently, the team is ninth in the 2026 table with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. During his tenure, Cartwright has been in charge of 39 games, securing 19 wins. Although his contract was set to expire at the end of the 2027 season, the club has decided to release him a year early. Richie Myler, Hull's CEO, expressed gratitude for Cartwright's contributions, stating that he played a crucial role in restoring stability and competitiveness to the team. Cartwright will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season, with the club's full support. Following the announcement, the players reportedly chose not to participate in a scheduled training session, seeking communication from club officials regarding the decision. The club is currently in the process of securing a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide an update soon. It has been reported that Hull FC has formally approached Steve McNamara, former Catalans Dragons head coach and current Warrington Wolves assistant coach, to take over the position. McNamara previously played for Hull FC from 1989 to 1996.
