Glasgow's Champions Cup Hopes Dashed by Toulon in Quarter-Final

Glasgow Warriors' bid to reach their first Investec Champions Cup semi-final was thwarted by a 22-19 defeat to RC Toulon at Scotstoun. Despite being favorites due to their strong home form and Toulon's domestic struggles, Glasgow fell short. The visitors, three-time European champions, secured a spot in the last four against either Leinster or Sale with a hard-fought win. Glasgow was forced to make a late change before kickoff, with Macenzzie Duncan replacing the injured Max Williamson. The home side took an early lead after Toulon racked up penalties in their own 22, with Alex Samuel and Ben Afshar combining to send Stafford McDowall over for the first try. However, Toulon quickly responded through Jeremy Sinzelle and Gael Drean. A trademark run by Kyle Steyn put Glasgow back in Toulon territory, but Sione Tuipulotu was held up just short of the line. Toulon's ill-discipline was punished when Junior Kpoku was yellow-carded, and Glasgow capitalized with Ollie Smith scoring. The hosts found themselves on the back foot, and Jean-Baptiste Gros scored a converted try to level the score at 12-12. Toulon took the lead through Melvyn Jaminet and Drean, but Glasgow regained it in the second half with Gregor Hiddleston scoring. Toulon eventually broke through with Nacho Brex scoring, and despite a late flurry from Glasgow, they sealed the win. Meanwhile, Leinster Rugby trounced Sale Sharks 43-13 to book their place in the semi-finals, where they will face Toulon. Leinster got off to a perfect start with Dan Sheehan scoring, and despite Sale reducing the deficit, they were down to 14 men when Dan du Preez was yellow-carded. Hugo Keenan, Ryan Baird, Rieko Ioane, and Tommy O'Brien all scored for Leinster, with Sale's Alex Willis touching down in the corner. A convincing win was wrapped up with a Jamie Osborne try and a Harry Byrne penalty.
