Aspinall Claims German Darts Grand Prix Title with Victory Over Noppert

Nathan Aspinall has secured his fourth European Tour title, emerging victorious in the German Darts Grand Prix with an 8-5 win over Danny Noppert in the final. Aspinall, who has now equalled Phil Taylor's haul of four European Tour titles, returned to winning form in Munich on Monday. He overcame a spirited comeback from Noppert to claim the £35,000 top prize, achieving an average of 100.35 and posting seven 180s. Aspinall's winning streak began after he survived a match dart in his opening match against Ricardo Pietreczko on Sunday. He then went on to defeat Pietreczko's World Cup partner Martin Schindler, winning six consecutive legs from 2-0 down. This was followed by a 6-4 win over Andrew Gilding in the quarter-finals. Aspinall produced his standout performance of the weekend in the semi-finals, averaging 106.40 to defeat Kevin Doets and end a sequence of six successive defeats against the Dutchman. The final against Noppert was a closely contested match, with Aspinall initially poised to cruise to victory before Noppert staged an unlikely turnaround. However, Aspinall responded with three consecutive legs to lead 7-5, before converting a clinical 128 checkout to seal his victory. 'I am absolutely buzzing,' Aspinall admitted, 'I've had a lot of knockbacks this year, but nights like tonight remind me why I play this game.'
