Maguire Commits to Manchester United with New Deal

Manchester United's defender Harry Maguire has agreed to a new one-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional 12 months. Maguire's previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season, but he will now remain at Old Trafford for an eighth campaign. The 33-year-old believes the club is on an upward trajectory and is eager to be part of a successful season next year. Maguire expressed his enthusiasm, stating, 'It's amazing. To be at this club, to play for this club for one game is really special. So, to be here seven years - it's going to be eight - I'm really looking forward to it.' He emphasized the importance of finishing the current season strongly to set the team up for success in the next year. Maguire has been a consistent presence for United since Michael Carrick took charge, helping the club rise to third in the Premier League and earning an England recall. A return to the Champions League is now a clear objective for United. Maguire is convinced the club has turned a corner, saying, 'I feel like we're in a good place at the moment. I believe we're in a forward curve with the club, and I want to be part of that.' He wants to leave the club in a good position when he eventually departs, prioritizing the team's success over individual achievements. Maguire believes next season could be special if the team works hard and recruits well in the summer. His new contract comes after an England recall and a significant upturn in Manchester United's performance, with only one loss in 10 games since Carrick took charge. Maguire has started every game in that period. Maguire said, 'Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.' He expressed his delight at extending his journey at the club, saying, 'I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.' Maguire's new deal will take him into an eighth season at Manchester United, having joined from Leicester in August 2019 for a world-record fee of £80m for a defender. He has won the FA Cup and League Cup in his seven years at Old Trafford, making 266 appearances and scoring 17 goals. Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire, saying, 'Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.' Wilcox added that Maguire is determined to help the club achieve regular and sustained success. Manchester United boss Michael Carrick also expressed his delight at Maguire's new deal, highlighting the importance of stability, consistency, and experience in the squad.
