Joel Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to step down as head coach of Catalans Dragons, a position he held for nearly a year, citing personal reasons. The former England international found it challenging to be away from his family and, after a recent period at home, decided to leave the team after seven games into the Super League season with the side currently sixth in the standings. Tomkins initially took on the role as an interim coach following Steve McNamara's departure but was soon appointed to the permanent position at the club where he spent the last years of his playing career. "I have experienced many highs and challenges during my 18 months at Catalans Dragons, and I appreciate the lessons learned and friendships formed," Tomkins stated. "Although being away from my family for an extended period has been tough, I am grateful for the experiences and friendships I've gained, and I believe I am a better coach now than when I started." After spending time at home due to personal reasons, Tomkins decided to leave the club. "I appreciate the support from the players, staff, and fans, and I wish the club success for the remainder of the season and beyond," he said. Tomkins had been absent from the club's last three fixtures, sparking speculation about his exit. Ryan Sheridan, along with assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, will take over as interim head coach, with their first game on April 18 against the top-of-the-table Warrington Wolves in the Super League.
