Southampton Surges Past Wrexham to Claim Sixth Spot

Any concerns about a letdown after their FA Cup win over Arsenal were quickly dispelled as the Saints stormed to a two-goal lead courtesy of early strikes from Kuryu Matzuki and Flynn Downes. Josh Windass pulled one back for Wrexham before the break, but the Saints regained their momentum as Cyle Larin added a third, and Ross Stewart headed in a fourth after replacing Larin. Finn Azaz sealed the victory with a late fifth goal. The win propels Southampton into the play-off spots, two points clear of Wrexham in seventh, with a game in hand, and just six points behind Ipswich in second. This victory marks the Saints' 10th unbeaten game in a 13-match streak, with Eckert's side timing their run to perfection. The Saints' intent was evident from the start, with Larin and Azaz both hitting the bar in the eighth minute. Azaz quickly made amends by setting up the opener, threading a fine ball through to Matsuki, who slotted past Arthur Okonkwo. The Saints continued to dominate, doubling their lead as Downes thumped home after Wrexham failed to clear a James Bree free-kick. Wrexham got one back through Windass, but Larin eventually got the goal he deserved, calmly lifting over Okonkwo after 61 minutes. Wrexham's Kieffer Moore headed against the post, while Azaz struck an upright at the other end. The Saints underlined their superiority with Stewart heading in from a Welington free-kick and Azaz sealing the win. Wrexham's Phil Parkinson reflected on the game, saying, 'We've got to use this as a lesson...
