McIlroy Vows to Improve for Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy acknowledges that he must elevate his game to successfully defend his Masters title after relinquishing a six-shot lead during the third round. Despite a strong start with rounds of 67 and 65, McIlroy's one-over par 73 on Saturday left him tied with Cameron Young at 11 under. McIlroy struggled with iron accuracy, hitting only 10 of the 18 greens in regulation, and made three bogeys along with a double bogey at the 11th. Speaking after his round, McIlroy expressed his determination to bounce back, stating, "I knew today wasn't going to be easy... I didn't quite have it today." He remains optimistic about his chances, saying, "I still have a great chance... I'm in the final group, which is exactly where you want to be." McIlroy believes his experience of winning the Masters last year and playing in a different final group will aid his chances. He thinks he will play more freely, reminding himself that he already has a green jacket. Sky Sports Golf's Rich Beem attributes McIlroy's resilience to his ability to forget past disappointments and focus on the present, saying, "He's not afraid to fail... He comes back time and time again, and that's why he's our defending Masters champion."
