Hull FC Announces Cartwright's Departure at Season's End

John Cartwright, the head coach of Hull FC, will be leaving the club following the conclusion of the 2026 Super League season. Cartwright was appointed to the position ahead of the 2025 campaign, during which the team finished seventh. Currently, they are ranked ninth in the 2026 table with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. Having overseen 39 games for the club and securing 19 wins, Cartwright's contract was initially set to expire at the end of the 2027 season. However, the club has opted to release him from his contract a year early. According to Hull's CEO, Richie Myler, Cartwright played a crucial role in restoring stability and competitiveness to the team during his tenure. Myler expressed the board's gratitude for Cartwright's contributions and confirmed that he will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season. The decision has reportedly been met with discontent among the players, who chose not to participate in a scheduled training session after being informed of Cartwright's departure. The club is currently in the process of securing a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide updates in due course. It is rumored that former Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara, who is currently an assistant coach at Warrington Wolves and a former player for Hull FC, has been formally approached for the position.
