Transgender Women Banned from Competing in Female Darts Tournaments

The Darts Regulation Authority has introduced a new eligibility policy, stating that only individuals assigned female at birth can participate in women's darts tournaments. This decision follows a review of the authority's Trans and Gender Diverse Policy, which included a report from a developmental biologist and consideration of legal advice and recent UK court rulings. As a result, transgender women, including Noa-Lynn van Leuven, a prominent player who has won six titles on the women's tour since 2022, will no longer be allowed to compete in women's events. However, they can still participate in open tournaments. The DRA claims it aims to promote fair competition and inclusivity, while also monitoring developments in transgender participation in sports and reviewing its policy annually. Van Leuven has expressed her disappointment and frustration with the decision, describing it as a significant setback for the trans community.
