Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to step down as head coach of Catalans Dragons, citing personal reasons. Tomkins, who held the position for nearly a year, revealed that being away from his family had taken a toll on him. After a recent stint back home, he made the difficult choice to leave the team after just seven games into the Super League season, with the Dragons currently sitting sixth in the standings. Initially, Tomkins took on the role as an interim coach following Steve McNamara's departure but was later appointed to the permanent position. In a statement, Tomkins expressed his gratitude for the experience, saying, 'My time at Catalans Dragons over the past 18 months has been a valuable learning experience, both personally and professionally.' However, he noted that the prolonged separation from his family had become too challenging. Tomkins will be replaced by Ryan Sheridan, who will take over as interim head coach alongside assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, starting with their next game against the Warrington Wolves on April 18.
