John Cartwright to Depart Hull FC After 2026 Season

Hull FC's head coach, John Cartwright, will be leaving the club once the 2026 Super League season comes to a close. Cartwright took the reins ahead of the 2025 campaign, during which the team finished seventh, and currently sits ninth in the 2026 standings with three wins and four losses after seven rounds. With a contract initially set to expire at the end of the 2027 season, the club has opted to release him a year early. Cartwright has overseen 39 matches for the club, securing 19 wins. According to Hull's CEO, Richie Myler, Cartwright played a crucial role in stabilizing and making the team competitive again. Myler expressed the board's gratitude for Cartwright's contributions and stated that he will continue to lead the squad for the remainder of the season. Following the announcement, it was reported that the players chose not to attend a scheduled training session, seeking communication from club officials regarding the decision. The club is currently in the process of finding a new head coach for the 2027 season and will provide updates accordingly. Reports indicate that Hull FC has approached former Catalans Dragons head coach and current Warrington Wolves assistant coach Steve McNamara, a former player for the Black and Whites, to potentially fill the position.
